We're not homesteders as such, but we do live a simple life that is in touch with the cycle of work and rest is evident throughout nature. Our approach to living, based largely on the reduction of wants and a mostly non-monetary return from our organic horticulture, bee keeping and other sorts of labor. Were living the good life along the Mississippi river valley in north eastern Iowa.

Sioux City Sue
Wednesday we rolled into the western Iowa Loess Hills as the sun was setting and the temperatures reached the 80* mark. We could see the storm approaching in the west, with clear skies south and pitch black skies to the north.
In the distance we noticed a controlled prairie burn as a flock of snow geese dropped in on a field to feed.
The next day along the platte river we had another big bird sighting. Thousands of sand hill cranes just off the interstate. 50 here, 100 or more over there in a several mile stretch near north platte.
Unable to dodge Wednesday nights storm we pulled off the road and sat out the worst of the storm in a car wash and we were rewarded with this beautiful sun set.
We followed this up with dinner and drinks with our good friends and hosts, John and Cynthia. We only wish we could have stayed longer. But, we had to be on the road early the next morning to head on to Denver! Thanks for the great night!
