Hitting the trails

I hit the ice on the old mississippi down at the cabin
Then I hit the deer trails before the next little blast of snow later on this week?
I found a bale of hay along the highway the other day.  So, I jammed it into some dogwood thickets along the point in hopes of a buck diggin in for a snack and bumpin off a shed or two.
We'll see!
Third trip out this year and still looking for that first shed!

Friday Lap.

Friday after school I did a quick lap through the prairie out at the farm after I fed the cats.
temperatures have risen to 15* and the sun was setting.  No sheds but it was a good outing, none the less.
The deer have beaten down areas through out the area
The search for the first shed of 22 continues.

HOW TO DEAL WITH THE DOG DAYS OF JANUARY

No major snowfalls to speak of this winter.  A few inches here and there. Our quail covey population has dropped from a high of 14 birds down to only seeing 8 this past week.
I've been out only twice shed hunting or took Maxine out for a walk as it turned out.
No sheds, Yet!
Bo made the drive east to visit Dorris and then we spent some time on the ice fishing.

and some time around the fire chatting.

Susie has been busy working on tile, among other things
At school there's light at the end of the tunnel.
The Avocado is doing well and has some great color
The weekend rolls around and Susie and I reward ourselves by
"Drinking French"  with purple gin.
Tonights cocktail is a variation of a
Corpse Reviver.

We reupped our membership at Jubecks for the 4th year...

And played some cribbage with a special deck with all Aces!
Yes and Susie won both games.

I guess the "Dog Days" aren't that bad if you're still able to get out and do the things you enjoy with the people you love.

JANUARY TOO COLD!

With subzero temps and several inches of snow getting around has been tough to say the least.
Even for the Ice Road truckers
But it was time to strap the skis on and lay a trail down to the chapple
I blazed the rrail with Richard on my lid.
A little down hill run and lets get this place heated up
A nice fire and three handed cribbage.
I also hit the trout stream several times this week but with no luck,

It may be COLD* but we're tough.

Back on the trail 2022

With temps back up above 0*, Maxine and I took our first big hike of the year
We checked out some bedding areas, saw a bard owl, a squirrel and a single doe
Maxine was rewarded with a big bone
And Susie rewarded me with some fresh homemade donuts.
Sugar twisted, maple bacon and jimmy sprinkles

And a hot cup of coffee.
I think, I'll start doing more hiking 😋

We weren't the only ones who stayed close to home for the new year

Susie and Maxine got there walk in while I worked at the wood pile

Super nachos and super cocktails to start out the Super New Year of 2022.

It's sure to be a very special and life changing year.

Susie's Elderberry/Grapefruit Paloma with a spicy rim.
