In order to get to our next camp in the Big Horn mountains we had to ford a stream and drive down a rough road. As always we explored the surrounding area, we ate well and played cribbage.
As we departed the next morning Beau chose a road leading up a mountain side.
We looked over the ridge and spotted three elk in the distance so of course we crept up on them to get a closer look.
With binoculars in hand we crept ever closer
We got as close as 50 yards away watching and listening as the herd of 50 plus elk, males, females and young calves fed and called to one another in the meadow.
Although Beau and I have seen elk in the wild before this was special because we could hear them bugel and we were much closer than we had ever been before.
Walking back to the truck I snapped a pic of the shooting star or maybe just to rest for a bit,
This Marmot and a big rabbit were our only visitors at this camp.
