LOOK WHO CAME TO IOWA

 

The Yukon again and the Northwest Territory

We parted ways with the rest of the crew for this leg of our adventure.

And once again we set our compass to North of the arctic circle

We better get rolling.  We've got about a 460 mile run to the Beaufort sea  of the Arctic Ocean

The August days give us long hours of daylight for driving, exploring and fishing.

Just past Eagle Plains is where the man hunt for the mad trapper took place in 1931 - 32

We had two more ferry crossings

 on the Peel river and Mackinzie river's

We fished for Grayling 

And Beau once again out fished me.

Happy to be in the North west territory walking the shores of Tuktoyaktuk.

My bus Tsunami didn't make it up here but Beau and I did!

We worked our way back down the Dempster, stopping at a few spots to fish for grayling and pike.

As for our usual, we made camp, played some catch and took a hike to explore the area

We followed some moose tracks, which led to some bear tracks we came over the top of the hill and

Beau spotted a fox den. Beau shared some smoked salmon 

The next morning we continued our trek south and while crossing through the next valley

Beau spotted a family of grizzlies about a half mile off the road, feeding on blue berries and wrestling.

Our time in Alaska has come to an end and we're heading back to Canada.

The bar in Chicken is always open

To get from the Alaskan range to Dawson City we took The top of the world highway which is only open during the summer

We took the free 24 hour ferry across the Yukon river 

An order of poutine and a beer at Dawson city 

 

To the Artic Circle and Beyond

After many, many miles we we're so excited to finely make it to the artic circle

WE DID IT!

The Dalton Highway runs 414 miles up to Prudhoe Bay and was built to aid in pipeline construction.

Beau was doing his part

We camped at Marion Creek and talked to the warden about shed hunting.

The next day we traveled north over the Atigun Pass elev. 4739 ft.

and as far north as the field station

We fished

on the return trip back to camp we panned for gold 

I uploaded this pic to show where we looked for caribou sheds on the  Chandalar shelf

We hiked the tundra just past the air strip and it wasn't long before Beau was on the run.

We couldn't believe it when he pulled this beautiful deadhead from the brush.

Back to camp to celebrate the find and our time on the Dempster

We had a great camp for our last on the Dalton overlooking a beaver pond.

It was a cool night North of the artic circle 28* F. 

 Tara enjoyed hot ass as we sat by the fire

and we killed the rabbit.
